This is the last Will & Testament of me Francis Scobie of Cobham in the County of Surrey. Tailor by which I give and dispose of the whole of my property as in manner herein after described. To my wife Mrs. Mary Scobie I give and bequeath the whole of my household goods & furniture plate(?) linen china and wearing apparel to her my said wife for her use & benefit for & during the rest of her natural life and at her decease the said furniture and effects to be equally divided among the such of my children as shall be thus living. To my Son Francis Scobie I give and bequeath the whole of my stock in trade with the business of a tailor and also all my book debts owning to me at the time of my decease subject to the payment of all my first debts involved in housekeeping expenditures for two months after my decease and also to the payment of my funeral & testamentary expends and at the express condition that my said Son Francis to regularly pay or ___ to be paid unto my said wife the sum of seven shillings p. week and for every week so long as my said wife Mrs. Mary Scobie shall live. And I also stipulate as a further ambition that my said Son Francis shall only employ my son John his brother in the business as a Journeyman at all times. And as he has ____sion and in preference to anyone placed at fair & ____ wages so long as my said Son John shall be desirous of being so employed. To my said wife Mrs. Mary Scobie I also give and bequeath the interest at fixed percent as a loan of two hundred & 50 pounds now held by my Son Mr. Edwin Scobie but if at any time after my demise the said Edwin Scobie shall pay off the said loan of two hundred & fifty pounds, I hereby direct that the said ___ to the full amount be invested in the ____ Three & to half for East Bank Annuities in the name of my said wife. The dividends arranging thereafter for her to use for & during the rest of her natural life. And I also direct that at her decease the principle of the two hundred & fifty pounds so invested shall with any addition in the said stock stand-ing in her name at the time of her decease be equally divided share and share alike between such of my children as shall be thus living with the understanding that if any out or more of my children namely Francis, Edwin, James & John should depart this life previous to my said wife leaving careful issue such issue shall at her decease take the share of their father so dying but in the event of the death of one or more of my said Sons dying & leaving a widow with issue such widow or widows shall have the interest of her husband's share during life and at her decease the principle money of the said share shall go to the child or children that the said widow or widows may have at their respective deaths but further should any one of said Sons depart this life leaving a widow without issue such widow shall have her share of her husband for her sole use and so benefit. Lastly I hereby nominate constitute & appoint my said wife Mrs. Mary Scobie Executrices and my said Son Francis Scobie Executor jointly to this my last will and testament unto which I set my hand & seal this 10th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hyndred & thirty seven ---- Fris Scobie ---- Signed sealed & _____ by the testator as & for his last will & testimony in the presence of us and in the presence of each other who at his request have signed our names as witnesses to the execution hereof the day & date above written. A Codicil to my last will and testament dated February 10th 1837. By this codicil I Francis Scobie of Cobham in the county of Surrey Tailor do give and bequeath to my wife Mrs. Mary Scobie for her natural life all those two cottages situated at Downside, Cobham, Surrey now in the occupation of Charles Lee(?) and Charles Hill(?) together with the land attached and belonging thereto and that by is empowered to collect all rents as they may or shall become due from the said cottages and land belonging thereto during her natural life and at her decease the said cottages and land shall become the property of my four Sons, Francis, Edwin, James and John Scobie share and share alike to be retained by them or sold as they may agree or think fit and should at her or any of my Sons die before my wife Mrs. Mary Scobie then their share shall be equally divided between their children and if no children the said share should then be divided equally between my Sons thus living. Signed by me this 13th day of ---- 1844 in the presents of the undersigned witnesses ---- Francis Scobie ___ ---- witness to the above signature at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other the day and date above named. Appeared Personally Henry Goldman of Cobham in the county of Surrey butler to Harvey Eburbt(?) of the same place Esquire and magistrate(?) that he is one of the subscribed witnesses to the codicil to the last will and testament of Francis Scobie late of Cobham in the county of Surrey tailor deceased the said codicil being as to hereto consecrated and bearing the date thirteenth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty four. And he further most sath that on the on the thirteenth day of January aforesaid the said testator duly executed the said codicil by signing his name at the foot or end thereof in the prosence of this deponent and of Henry Pearson the other described witness thereto present at the same time and this deponent and the said Henry Pearson thereupon attested and subscribes the said codicil in the presence of the said testator. And the deponent referring to the alterations in the fate of the said codicil to wit the word 'October' ___ it through with ink the word 'Jan' written under-neath the same and the figure '4' written on the figure '3' the lastly made that such alterations were made previous to the execution of the said codicil as afore said, ---- Henry Goldman ---- on the 26th day of January 1848 the said Henry Goldman was only sworn to the truth of this affidavit _____. James Parker Leane Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oath of Francis Scobie his Son one of the executors to whom ____ was granted having been first been sworn only to administer _____ of making the life grant to Mary Scobie widow to the ____ the other executor to whom she shall apply for the same.

Decorah, Winneshiek, IA, George W. Scobie, 90, a longtime resident of Rochester, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa. A family memorial service will be held at a later date with interment in Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

George was born May 6, 1915, to Frank and Alma (Witt) Scobie in Sleepy Eye, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1937. On April 10, 1943, he married Phyllis Rathman in St. Paul and together they enjoyed life for 63 years. They lived in Rochester until moving to Mabel in July, 2005. George was comptroller for Massey's Department store in Rochester, retiring in 1983. He was active in Kiwanis, and was a long-standing treasurer of the Rochester chapter. He and Phyllis enjoyed square dancing, belonging to three groups for many years. Nearly every summer for over 15 years, they took their family camping, hiking and fishing in the Boise, Idaho area.

George is survived by his wife, who resides in Green Lea Manor, Mabel; children, Sandra (Jim) Landmark, Omaha, Neb., Paul (Teresa) Scobie, St. Paul, Dale (Sue) Scobie, Spring Grove and Deena (Steve) Reisman, Afton; and grandchildren, Chris, David and Peter Landmark and Aaron and Michele Reisman. George was preceded in death by his brother, Herb (Ruth); sister, Elizabeth Scobie; and sister and brother-in-law, Jean (DeeDee) and Harry Hornbrook.
